- Why would I want to join a Boy Scout troop?
- To sum it up, it is a lot of fun. You also learn many things while earning ranks, and learn how to work with others, even if it is cleaning dishes.
- Where and when do we meet?
- Boy Scouts of America Troop 195 is based at St. Catherine of Sweden Parish. Our troop meets weekly on Tuesday nights.
- Is Cub Scouts required before Boy Scouts?
- No, you can join at anytime after you are in fifth grade or 11 years old.
- Does Troop 195 go on any outings?
- Yes, our troop goes on an outing once a month along with some day activities, like the Klondike Derby.
- What are the ranks in Boy Scouts?
- The ranks go in the order of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle.
- Are we part of a Council?
- Yes, we are part of the Greater Pittsburgh Council and we are also in the Japeechen District.
- Are there any positions I can hold?
- Yes, after you become First Class, you can hold a variety of troop positions ranging from Senior Patrol Leader who leads meetings and outings, to scribe who writes down anything of importance.
- When do we plan our meetings (what is a PLC)?
- The first Monday of each month is also our PLC or Patrol Leader's Conference. This is a planning session for the month's meetings open to all scouts, even those not holding a position in the troop.
- How are the scouts organized into patrols?
- Our troop splits into patrols with about seven to ten people in each patrol. The patrols work together preparing meals on outings and in other activities.
- Is it true that you have to cook yourself and wash your own dishes?
- Yes, that is a part of an outing, however you and your patrol share the task of cooking and cleaning up on outings.
- Who can I contact to get more information on joining or about Troop 195?
